There is nothing spiritual about this depraved act — a man has been sent to jail for fondling his girlfriend's teenage daughter while pretending to conduct "spiritual cleansing".
The 31-year-old man carried out the lecherous deception last year when he moved into a flat in Bukit Merah with the victim and her mother, The Straits Times reported. The same night he moved in, he discussed about carrying out "spiritual cleansing" with his girlfriend, and she approved of his decision to perform it on her 15-year-old daughter.
The cleansing would involve massaging the teenager's body, but both the victim and her mother did not agree to the man touching the girl's private parts.
Later that night, the three of them went to sleep together in the one-room HDB unit, with the girl lying in the middle of the couple. Around 3am, the man started fondling the girl, slipping his hand underneath her T-shirt, touching her stomach before moving up to touch her left breast. The shocked teenager kept quiet and pretended to be asleep.
He then got up to talk to her mother for some time before going back beside the victim and laid down beside her. Emboldened, he started to put his hand inside the girl's shorts and touched her genitals.
Upon feeling some pain, the girl got up and went to sit on the sofa, remaining awake until morning and leaving for school. Later that very day she informed her aunt about the incident and filed a police report.
In court yesterday, he admitted to two charges of criminal use of force with the knowledge that he would outrage the girl's modesty, with the prosecution noting that he had previously been convicted in a case of underage sex.
He has since been sentenced to 15 months in jail and three strokes of the cane.
