Residents of two blocks of flats in Sengkang were visited by some unwanted guests on Monday night, forcing them to seal their doors and windows shut. Not very friendly, but it’s better to be safe than stung.
According to Shin Min Daily News, more than a thousand bees swarmed a 17th-floor unit at Block 122C, Sengkang East Way and gathered by a window at about 8pm on Monday night. Determined to dominate the entire territory, the bees also invaded the corridors, lifts, a multipurpose pavilion and even paid a visit to more than 100 residents in Block 122C and neighbouring Block 122E.
One resident, 68-year-old housewife Ms Fan, told Shin Min that she even donned a raincoat before leaving her house for fear of getting stung by the bees. The bees didn’t attack her but her maid pricked her finger when she went to clear the floor of the dead bees, added Ms Fan.
After being alerted by a resident, the town council deployed a pest exterminator at about 12.30pm on Tuesday to exterminate the bees. Pest exterminator Mohammad Safaun told Shin Min that the mysterious appearance of the bees was possibly due to the lights at night that attracted them but they were only there temporarily as they had not begun building a nest.
