Taxi drivers are people too, but some degenerates just don't get that, especially the ones who deal abuse both verbal and physical. In court today, Dutch national Dino Petrus Johannes van Deijzen was sentenced to jail for three weeks after admitting to causing hurt to a cabbie in Ang Mo Kio last year.
It was revealed that the 34-year-old design executive and his girlfriend were heavily intoxicated when they boarded the taxi at Dunlop Street, and slept all the way in the rear passenger seat to their destination at Block 538 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5, The Straits Times reports.
The troubles started when the couple reached their destination, and the girl vomited inside the taxi. When they got out the cab, 42-year-old cabbie Ee Kah Ling asked van Deijzen for the fare and to settle the issue about the vomit. The couple ignored him and walked away without paying, and Ee then went to retrieve his mobile phone to call the police.
The Dutch man then slammed the taxi's door on Ee and punched him before chasing him and pushing him to the ground, raining down punches and kicks on the man. The cabbie was conveyed to hospital with multiple abrasions on his body, and was given five days' medical leave. The altercation was captured by the in-vehicle CCTV camera of the taxi, and was used as evidence.
