Coconuts Hot Spot: Luxe SingaporeHey mate! Want a taste of the laidback Australian café vibe? You don’t have to head Down Under but just over to Luxe Singapore, fitting snugly along Keong Saik Road, in its stretch of hip cafés and chic restaurants. This new dining gem is literally the newest kid on the block of the two-month old co-working space The Working Capitol. With Nordic wooden furniture and brass accents decorating the elegant space of concrete floors and white walls, it feels like you’re stepping straight into a page of a classy interior design catalogue.   Originally hailing from Sydney, Luxe is best known as a highly successful retail bakery outlet with over 250 venues in the Australian city. Luxe Singapore is their first overseas venture, and its kitchen is helmed by Chef Chui Lee Luk who has imbued the restaurant’s contemporary Australian cuisine with a Southeast Asian twist. The downside is that the menu might be limited and pricey, and as brunch is only available on weekends, there’s essentially only a handful of items for lunch: starters like oysters ($36) and charcuterie ($42), chicken salad ($20), hanger steak burger ($24), handmade pork and fennel sausage roll ($18), wild weed pie ($24), and 250g ribeye ($45). The Luxe Hanger Steak Burger ($24) is a gem, and can be complemented with the lunch set that includes dessert, coffee and wine at $35. The Steak Burger was absolute heaven – tender medium rare slices of beef cooked with a unique chili padi butter, stacked in between soft black sesame buns. The only gripe might be the miniscule portion for the price. Those who have time to spare can opt for the Pork and Fennel Sausage Roll ($18) which would require about 25 minutes to prepare as the pastry is freshly baked on the spot. Suppressing your hunger would be worthwhile as you sink your teeth into the piping hot buttery crust and the succulent pork fillings.  Though it could feel a wee bit pricey, Luxe seems eager to ensure that each and every penny you spend in the restaraunt is well worth it — and it truly is.  Luxe Singapore is at The Working Capitol, 1 Keong Saik Road, +65 9722 4940. Open Tuesday to Friday from 12pm – 12am, 9am – 12am on Saturdays, 9am - 4pm on Sundays and is closed on Monday. Photos: Coconuts Singapore   brightcove.createExperiences();
