Die-hard durian lovers, rejoice — harvesting season is coming, and durian vendors have started to sell the king of fruits at its lowest prices so far this year.
Channel NewsAsia reports that prices for durians have started dropping across Singapore, with many vendors expecting it to go even lower, considering the hot weather that has caused a huge harvest in Malaysia this year.
The most popular durian in Singapore — the Mao Shan Wang — is at its lowest ever price at $15 to $16 per kilogramme. The sweet, creamy and slightly less pungent Golden Phoenix durian are currently being sold at $12 per kilogramme in Geylang, as compared to $15 last year.
Some vendors have also attributed the drastic fall in prices to the Ramadhan fasting month, leaving a big quantity of the harvest being unsold in Malaysia.
Go wild, durian lovers, go wild.
