Like a sudden lightning strike made out of cash, telecommunications giant Singtel has made a very generous $20 million contribution to the National Gallery Singapore.
With the money comes the manifestation of naming the galleries located on the third floor of the museum as the Singtel Special Exhibition Gallery, which will be dedicated to showcasing modern art co-curated with renowned museums from around the world.
Spanning a total floor area of approximately 20,000 square feet, Singtel's new art space comprises three areas including a double volume gallery. Singtel will be presenting two annual international shows in their newly acquired art pad, with the first shindig slated for April 2016.
“We are very excited to be collaborating with the National Gallery Singapore to present artworks that are rarely seen in Singapore and the region. At the same time, we feel proud to see art from home and Southeast Asia take their place alongside global offerings," gushed Singtel Group CEO Chua Sock Koong.
But what's the connection between telecommunications and art?
“Art provokes dialogue and connects people regardless of culture and country. As Asia’s leading communications group, we too connect over half a billion mobile customers across the region daily. We hope to facilitate even more connections and conversations with the exhibition presented at the Singtel Special Exhibition Gallery," she continues.
Cool story bro.
