Geylang is probably the last place where you'd go to see art, but that's about to change in August.
Local art gallery Chan Hampe turns five that month and that's when it opens a private space in the Red Light District called Shophouse 5. It's a space for artists to experiment and develop new work. Wink wink."Our five year anniversary and the addition of the Shophouse 5 as a project space to the local art landscape confirm our commitment to supporting contemporary art in Singapore for the long term," says owner Angie Chan.
An Open House for the space will be held on Aug 15 & 16, 11am-7pm.
Also that month, "Common Ground", a group exhibition featuring artists like Alvin Ong, Belinda Fox, Chankerk, Dawn Ng, Safaruddin bin Abdul Hamid (Dyn) , Esmond Loh, Eugene Soh, Green Zeng, Jason Lim, Kumari Nahappan and Mike HJ will be shown concurrently at Shophouse 5 and the Raffles Hotel Shopping Arcade gallery.
Shophouse 5 is at 5 Lorong 24A Singapore 398529. By appointment only, contact +65 6338 1962.
