Motorcyclist dead in nine-vehicle pile-up after driver braked suddenly to flip the birdNever would anyone think that the one-finger salute could kill someone, but that's exactly what transpired in June 19 last year.  52-year-old workshop manager Pang Chon Seng has since been slapped with four months in jail after his attempt to flip the bird at another motorist resulted in a three chain collision that involved nine vehicles, as well as the tragic death of a motorcyclist along the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE). Pang had been driving to work in the morning when he started to swerve dangerously from lane to lane to harass a motorcyclist, The Straits Times reports. Fearing for their safety, the motorcyclist, Johann Johari Nazir, and his wife in the pillion seat decided to stop at the road shoulder near Toh Guan Road.  Pang then braked suddenly on the road to hold up not one, but two middle fingers at the motorcyclist. The sudden halt sparked a whole chain of collisions — a prime mover truck driver behind him braked hard as well, forcing a lorry driver behind it to slam on the brakes as well. However, the lorry veered to the right and spun straight into the path of another motorcyclist, Liow Yong Seng.  Seng didn't stand a chance. The 35-year-old smashed into the lorry so hard that his motorcycle split in two and was flung across the PIE. Seng was found dead under the lorry.  Due to Pang's act of contemptuous assholery, a total of nine vehicles were involved in the accident. Like the complete douchebaguette he was, he drove off from the accident site.  In court, Pang claimed that he had been swerving close to Johann as he thought someone on the motorcycle had been taking pictures of him. The Deputy Public Prosecutor found no evidence of the photographs, and maintained that even if it was true, the reaction was disproportionate.  Lim Kok Aung, the lorry driver that spun into Liow's path and causing his death, has been fined $7,000 for failing to keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of him, contributing to the accident.  Both Pang and Lim have been disqualified from driving for four years.  All this pain and suffering, just because someone wanted to flip the bird.  Photo: Jared eberhardt via Flickr
