10 weeks in jail for single mother who stole $4k worth of gold jewellery during cleaning jobA part-time cleaner has been jailed for literally cleaning out her employer's jewellery drawer.  32-year-old single mother Rafizah Razie had stolen $4,000 worth of gold jewellery from the house of her 34-year-old employer, housewife Anitha Lakshmanan, over the course of four months last year, The Straits Times reports.  The single mother of five children had taken up a part-time cleaning job at Lakshmanan's Anchorvale flat, getting $14 per hour for a four-hour cleaning session. Rafizah was aware of where her employer kept her jewellery, as she had been asked to put some of it away in a drawer.  From February to May last year, Rafizah would slowly pilfer away jewellery from the drawer, of which she would later pawn for money ranging from $70 to $750.  It was only in May that her employer noticed that some of the jewellery were gone. They repeatedly questioned Rafizah about the items, and she eventually confessed to the theft later.  A police report was made and the single mother was arrested.  The court heard that Rafizah's ex-husband is in prison, making her the sole provider of all her five young children, with the youngest being only a year old. Though the family receives assistance from Daybreak Family Service Centre, Rafizah's desperate financial situation led her to stealing Lakshmanan's jewellery, which have since been successfully recovered.  After pleading guilty to nine charge of theft, Rafizah was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison earlier today.  Photo: Jasleen Kaur via Flickr
