Arrested: Conman who duped over 50 victims in SEA Games employment scamFollowing the SEA Games employment scam that left the wallets of more than 50 victims $35 slimmer, police managed to establish the mastermind's identity and arrested the conman.  Earlier this week, it was discovered that over 50 people had fallen for the scam of a man by the name of Karim, who had been offering positions for the upcoming SEA Games, where employees will be able to earn $900 for a week's work carrying out laundry and towel duties.  They had to pay a fee of $35 for registration and a set of uniforms, as well as attend a three-day training session at the New Bridge Road office of recruitment agency TCC Manpower on Monday. Karim became uncontactable after all his victims arrived on site. SEA Games management confirmed that there were no such positions available.  After receiving the report on Monday, officers from Central Police Division and Marine Parade Neighbourhood Centre carried out investigations and established the man's identity. He was arrested at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 yesterday at 10.50pm with a notebook, mobile phones and an iPad seized as evidence. Investigations revealed that the suspect was also involved in two other theft cases committed in Marine Parade and Serangoon Central.  The man will be charged in court tomorrow for the offence of cheating, which carries penalty of imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine.  Photo: Victor via Flickr
