Residents of new Punggol flats vexed by crack-ridden walls and ceilingsThe last thing you'd want to see when you've waited a couple of years and signed your name to pay thousands of dollars to the HDB is defects in your new house, but that's what several new houseowners at Punggol are going through right now.  The Straits Times reports that families moving into new flats have found numerous hairline cracks on the walls and ceilings of all their units rooms, with some even stretching to two metres long.  HDB however has assured residents that the cracks do not affect the structural integrity of the block, in response to the complaints lodged by residents.  Still, residents are understandably upset over the cracks as they question the quality of construction in newly built flats.  Some have approached their building services centre, which will send workers to plaster the cracks — but every time one gets patched up, another will appear. Whatever the case, HDB probably needs to ease the unhappiness of their new residents very soon, especially considering that they've scored above the national average in a standard industry measurement for quality assessment.  Photo: Sherrie Thai via Flickr
