File this under WTF. On Tuesday evening, Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers had to save a woman from the evil clutches of a public bench when she accidentally slipped and got stuck between it and a wall.
How was she not able to free herself? Welp, witnesses described the woman as "large", which is a politically correct way to say that she was just really fat.
The SCDF actually had to be called in to free the woman by cutting away the bench itself, located at Jurong Spring Community Club along Jurong West Street 52.
A cleaner around the area speculated to Lianhe Wanbao that the woman might have dozed off, fallen from the bench and slipped through the 30cm gap between the seat and the staircase wall behind it. There she lied face-down on the floor for around 20 minutes, moaning in pain.
During the ordeal, some passers-by had tried to free her from under the bench before the SCDF arrived.
Rescuers had to use a grinder to cut the legs of the bench in order to lift it away from her back. Following the rescue, she was given an oxygen mask and was carted away to an ambulance, which took her to National University Hospital.
Residents mentioned that the woman lives in the area, and would sit at the bench nearly everyday from morning till evening.
The area where the bench was removed has since been cordoned off to the public.
