The days of free-flying drones will soon be over as Parliament has approved a Bill that will take effect on June 1."Among the new rules, operators will need to get a permit to fly an unmanned aircraft that weighs more than seven kilogrammes. A list of security-sensitive areas will also be published where such aircraft are not allowed to fly without a permit. These include the Istana, Parliament House and military bases and camps," reports Olivia Siong on Channel NewsAsia.
The report hints that the Ministry of Transport is still determining how to deal with violators, though enforcers will have the power to assume control of an unmanned aircraft. They will most likely not be shot down.
“Some of you have pointed out that attempts to shoot it down may actually cause more damage and I fully agree with you on that. So any action that we take, we have to consider it carefully," Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew is quoted in the report.
If you want to see drones in safe action, you can always go to a restaurant. Singapore company Infinium Robotics, which obtained a $250,000 grant from SPRING Singapore in 2014, makes this SGD20,000 technology that's been used by Timbre.
