Many have cried out for justice on the mysterious man who slapped 16-year-old YouTuber Amos Yee two weeks ago, and today, the man appeared in court to face the music. He has since been sentenced to three weeks in prison.
Neo Gim Huah, 49, pleaded guilty to one charge of voluntarily causing hurt by forcefully slapping the left side of the teen's face on Apr 30, TODAY reports.
Regarding why he carried out such a public display of garang-ness on a boy 33 years his junior, Neo stated that he had deliberately done so in full view of the media as he was outraged that Yee flouted his bail conditions and wanted the assault to be publicised to show the world that the teenager was "being taught a lesson".
Yee had been walking to the State Courts for a pre-trial hearing when Neo approached him and slapped the boy hard before running away, all while daring Yee to sue him. He was arrested the very next day.
Neo has since expressed his regret over the incident and apologised for causing hurt to Yee and his parents. The court heard that Neo thought the slap would instil fear in Yee, and fix his arrogance.
District Judge Ronald Gwee stated that Neo's attack was highly premeditated, and the fact that he intentionally carried out his own method of punishment in front of the media was particularly disturbing. He could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined $5,000.
Yee on the other hand currently faces charges for making offensive remarks against Christianity and spreading obscene imagery online. The verdict on his charges will be announced tomorrow.
