Sick of getting tearfully bored waiting in the uber-long traffic jam to and fro Johor and Singapore? There's another avenue in which folks can travel to Malaysia's southernmost state — and you can definitely bet that there won't be any traffic jams at sea.
Not many know that there are actually ferry services that sail from here to Johor and back, but soon it may actually be a common mode of travel following bilateral talks between the Singapore and Malaysian government, TODAY reports.
More ferry services will be allowed between Changi Ferry Terminal and Tanjung Belungkor, a 15-minute drive from Desaru, Johor. Currently, only Changi Ferry Terminal and Changi Point Ferry Terminal offer passenger boat rides to Johor and back.
A return ferry ticket to Tanjung Belungkor costs $38, while one-way tickets cost $25 each. Those who bring along extra transport such as surfboards or bicycles will be charged an extra $10.
Folks departing from Changi Point Ferry Terminal have to pay $11 per person — and a $2 surcharge for their bicycles — for bumboat rides to the small coastal town of Pengerang, in south-eastern Johor.
Talks are already ongoing between the maritime authorities of the two countries for more elaborate ferry services beyond current routes, and the ferries will most likely depart from Singapore's HarbourFront.
