Digital music revenue reached SGD9.5 million last year, while CDs and the like accounted for SGD4.5 million. "Regional director Ang Kwee Tiang said this was due to the growth of digital revenue, particularly from online streaming platforms such as Spotify and Deezer which saw greater consumer awareness in 2014," it says.
This is amid reports that Apple wants to "kill free Spotify streaming" because as it prepares to launch its own music streaming platform — paid, of course.
In the future, it looks like we'll all need to pay for music.
