A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a series of trespass and housebreaking cases occurring specifically in private residential estates around Stevens Road, Moulmein Road and Upper Thomson Road.
His housebreaking spree began since March 2015, when the police received reports of an unknown individual trespassing into private properties by clambering over perimeter walls. In some of the cases reported, cash and mobile phones were stolen.
Following investigations, the suspect was identified and arrested yesterday. If charged in court for the offence of housebreaking and theft by night, he may be imprisoned for up to 14 years.
The police have advised all home owners to practice crime prevention measures such as ensuring all doors, windows and other openings are well secured, and even install a burglar alarm or a close circuit surveillance camera to cover access points into premises.
