As infamous teenager Amos Yee awaits in Changi Prison after refusing to bend down to the conditions of his bail, the two-day trial against him will take place this Thursday and Friday.
The hearing dates were fixed at a pre-trial conference yesterday afternoon, The New Paper reports. Yee himself watched the proceedings through live video streaming from Changi Prison.
Speaking to the paper, his lawyers remarked that it was a tight timeline to prepare for the trial, and expressed that they do not wish to see him in remand any longer than necessary.
But it seems that the 16-year-old likes his stay in remand. Though youth and family counsellor Vincent Law posted the $20,000 bail for him on Apr 22, Yee intentionally breached his bail conditions by writing and publishing posts on his blog, which was specifically disallowed under the bail. Law withdrew as a bailer and the boy was sent to Changi Prison once again last Thursday.
He will face trial for charges that include offensive remarks against Christianity, transmitting an obscene image on his blog and making an online video that disparaged the late Lee Kuan Yew.
