A cop's sordid past came back to bite him after his former mistress started disrupting the life of his wife, driving him to abuse his authority as a senior officer to access a police database system in an effort dig up more dirt on his ex-paramour.
Rick Goh Fu Yuan, 38, was fined $4,000 yesterday in court after pleading guilty to accessing data on the police system without authorisation, The New Paper reports.
The Senior Station Inspector attached to the Central Police Division was having an affair with his colleague, 28-year-old admin executive Joice Rosiana.
Their affair came to an end in June 2011, when Goh started distancing himself from her as he felt their relationship started to become inappropriate.
In November that year, however, his wife started complaining about receiving nuisance calls from a person who started revealing information about Goh's affair. Suspecting Joice was behind the calls, he decided to make a police report against her.
He later logged into the Frontline Officer Computerised System, keyed in Joice's identity card number and digged up more details about her for the police report.
Other police officers uncovered his misuse of the system later on while investigating Goh's report against Joice.
Goh has been interdicted from service since December last year, while the Singapore Police Force plan to start disciplinary proceedings against him.
