Excuse us while we shed our tears of joy. This Aug 9, on the day the nation celebrates its 50th birthday, all public transport services will be totally free of charge; no strings attached.
Jointly announced by SBS Transit and SMRT Corporation Ltd, both public transport operators will be offering free travel on board all their bus and train services on National Day, from the beginning to the end of their operation.
Fare gates at all MRT stations will be opened to allow commuters to board trains for free, while those taking the bus — including late night transport services including SMRT's Night Rider and SBS Transit's Night Owl — will not need to tap in or out.
It seems like next-level efforts such as these are being stepped up in a bid to entice Singaporeans to stay in the country for the jubilee celebrations, especially since there has been a surge in bookings for outward-bound flights following the announcement of the four-day long weekend from Aug 7-10.
