Following a celebrated stint overseas at Melbourne City Football Club, it seems that Singaporean national defender Safuwan Baharudin will not be extending his stay at the Australian club due to a season-ending back injury.
The 24-year-old joined the A-League club back in January on a three-month loan deal and had the opportunity to extend his football contract with the club after an impressive run of matches. However, a spinal injury sustained in a match against Wellington Phoenix will see him return to Singapore for treatment. "I am disappointed that my injury has forced me to end my stint with Melbourne City," said Safuwan who was signed by Melbourne City after a trial with the club during its training camp in Abu Dhab in January.
During his time in the A-League, he played six matches and scored two goals, and was even crowned Man Of The Match in the game against Adelaide United FC.
Safuwan will be registered for the LionsXII before the transfer deadline for the Malaysian Super League, and will play for the team when he returns to fitness.
