With waning support from corporate sponsors, local fans and even the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) themselves, it looks like the S-League may fold if things get worse.
Unhappy club chairmen voiced their displeasure over the sordid state of things during a closed door meeting with FAS officials on Monday, resulting in heated exchanges about the worrying future of the S-League, FourFourTwo reports.
Club chairmen complained that they are tired of trying to source sponsors and woo fans to their matches, as well as discussing their disappointment over national coach Bernd Strange's negative remarks about S-League matches.
Options such as getting rid of the LionsXII and Courts Young Lions teams and even scrapping the whole S-League were thrown onto the table.
Yesterday evening, S-League CEO Lim Chin insisted that they still remain united with the FAS, and are still exploring possibilities to rejuvenate the state of football in Singapore as attendances continue to dwindle in stadiums and the failure of the national team to clinch titles this year.
