10 days in detention for teen who assaulted foreign workers to test out fighting skillsThis asshole had it coming. One of the teens who started a sadistic fight club and went around assaulting foreign workers with three friends — because he was bored — was sentenced to 10 days in detention yesterday.  18-year-old Daryl Lim Jun Liang was also ordered to report to a supervision officer every day for a year, and will have to wear and electronic tag and observe a curfew from 10am to 6pm, TODAY reports. He will also have to perform 150 hours of community service within the year.  Lim, Tan Jun Liang – both 18 years old – and two other 15-year-old-boys (who cannot be named due to their age) targeted innocent and weaker foreign workers in Yishun. According to the report by The New Paper, the boys called their beat-ups “practice sessions”. They were involved in four such incidents in September and October last year.  Lim had spent three to four months learning martial arts at a gym prior to his senseless attacks, and together with his friends, wanted to test their fighting skills on foreign workers. 27-year-old Indian national Selvaraj Madankumar and 48-year-old Chinese national Zuo Yu Nian became the victims of the group's assault, leaving them with multiple injuries. In spite of their injuries, they did not seek medical treatment, in fear of losing income should they not turn up at work.  Lim and his friends intentionally targeted those who were smaller in stature and seemed weaker, avoiding those who were taller and bigger. Prosecutors had been seeking a sentence of reformative training for Lim, which would have involved a minimum of 18 months in detention. District Judge Lim Keng Yeow however ruled that such a sentence was unnecessary given Lim's age, and that it was his first offence. Probation officers had also assessed his risk of re-offending to be low.  Lim is now out on $15,000 bail after the prosecution applied for a pause in the start of his sentence while they study if they should appeal.  The 15-year-old boys were each sentenced to 18 months' probation while Tan's case is pending.  Photo: Mike Nelson via Flickr
