May his opinions be valued.
Lim Chin Chuan, a Trans-Cab taxi driver, is one of 19 members of a newly formed panel that will help the National Library Board "come to balanced decisions in the review of library materials."
Each member will serve a two-year term. Mildred Tan, managing director at Ernst & Young Advisory Pte Ltd, is the panel's chairperson. It is not clear if they will be receiving a stipend for their services.
The Library Consultative Panel is meant to represent a cross-section of Singapore society. Lim's co-panelists include an education technology officer, an orthopaedic surgery resident and a primary school clerk.
The panel will provide NLB with its recommendations on library materials to reflect community views in reviewing NLB’s collections, according to a news release. It may also decide to seek views from the public through focus groups and interviews.
So the next time a cabbie asks for your opinion on the latest Maya Angelou, check his ID, that maybe a quasi-librarian talking to you.
