The 3.5-kilometre long underground tunnel of the Marina Coastal Expressway contains a stretch that travels under the seabed, and it's only natural that Singaporean motorists travelling in the area have a constant fear that it'll someday burst open.
A dashcam uploaded on YouTube by a motorist managed to slightly raise panic, as the captured footage showed torrential sprays of water showering from the tunnel's ceiling, significantly slowing down traffic and left roads soaked.
The Land Transport Authority however has assuaged all fears by assuring that the water pouring down from the ceiling was not seawater, and was in fact due to the tunnel's sprinkler system.
Apparently, a contractor working in the tunnel had accidentally triggered the system, causing the deluge system to cascade water despite no fire within the tunnel.
Traffic was diverted out of the tunnel for around two minutes as the deluge system was turned off.
