What a weird place to set up a hotel. The residents of Jurong will see the opening of the first major hotel in the western district of Singapore at the end of this month.
Genting Hotel Jurong — built by Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) — is a 15-storey, 557-room hotel located along Jurong Town Hall Road and is located in close proximity to shopping malls such as Jem, JCube, the bus and MRT interchange, as well as the International Business Park.
The sleepy suburbs of Jurong is not really knowned for being a particularly vibrant or exciting neighbourhood, but it seems that the erection of the hotel aims to infuse some life into the mostly industrial town.
The hotel sports an eco-friendly aesthetic complete with a rooftop garden and sky terrace, offering expansive views of the Jurong Lake District.
It really is a strange place to build a Resorts World hotel — it's a 40-minute drive across Singapore from Changi International Airport — but the hotel seems to be accommodating the numerous foreign executives who have businesses and dealings in the Jurong industrial area.
"The Singapore government’s development plans to revitalise the area into a stunning lakeside destination forbusiness and leisure, bode well for Genting Hotel Jurong," remarks RWS Vice President of Rooms Chow Keng Hai. "Designed for both leisure and business travellers, we are confident that this functional and eco-friendly hotel will continue to garner the enthusiastic interest that it has received from the corporates situated in the vicinity so far.”
Genting Hotel Jurong opens on Apr 30 — more details on their official website.
