Hotpot restaurants along Beach Road found to have breached fire safety regulations Following the flash fire and stove explosion that left five patrons at a hotpot restaurant with suffering from burns, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) have gone on a intensive inspection run along the stretch of Beach Road's steamboat eateries.  Five customers of Chong Qing (Original) Steamboat were conveyed to hospital last Saturday after a stove explosion spewed boiling hot soup all over their faces and bodies. When the SCDF conducted an inspection on the restaurant on Tuesday, they found a large amount of flammable materials in the premises, which the eatery did not have a valid licence to store. For breaching fire safety rules, the SCDF will be taking action on the restaurant for not having approval and a licence to store petroleum and flammable materials above 200kg, The Straits Times reports.  A nearby restaurant — Zhong Hua Steamboat — was also found to have breached the fire safety rules for illegally storing more than 200kg of petroleum and flammable materials on their premises without a valid storage licence.  The SCDF did not find any breach of fire safety rules at a third restaurant they inspected in Beach Road.  According to The Straits Times, more than half of the tables at Chong Qing restaurant have switched to using electric stoves. It was suspected that the accident last Saturday was due to an exploding gas canister. Four of the five victims are planning to seek compensation from the eatery's owner.  Photo: Alpha via Flickr
