Getting into the syndicate young at the tender age of 15, a teenager has been arrested for suspected involvement in a series of loanshark harassment cases.
He blipped into radar on Apr 3 when police received a report about loanshark harassment where the front door of a residential HDB unit at Woodlands Street 82 was set on fire. It was only through extensive ground enquiries and images from police surveillance cameras that officers from Jurong Police Division established his identity and arrested the 15-year-old boy at Tampines three days later. He is believed to be involved in other similar cases.
First time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment will be punished with imprisonment of up to five years, a fine of up to $50,000 and up to six strokes of the cane. "No effort will be spared to nab them to face the full consequences of their misdeeds regardless of their age," says the police in their statement.
