Well that was stupid. A Malaysian man learned exactly how serious Singapore takes its border security when he tried to pass through the checkpoint without presenting his passport. yesterday.
The 33-year-old motorcyclist had tailgated the motorcycle in front of him and did not stop for immigration clearance — to which an Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer immediately activated the alarm, instantly putting Woodlands Checkpoint in lockdown.
ICA officers at the checkpoint immediately placed him under arrest, where he was found without a passport. He has been charged in court today for failure to present a passport for clearance and failure to stop his vehicle upon point of entry.
If convicted for failure to present a passport, he will be liable to a fine of up to $1,000 and/or imprisonment for up to six months, and if convicted for failure to stop his vehicle he will be fined for up to $2,000 and/or imprisoned for up to six months.
