The World Rugby Sevens Series will be making a return to Singapore next year at the National Stadium, after a hiatus of nine years.
Revealed by Singapore Rugby Union (SRU) president Low Teo Ping today, he also announced that the union has formed a company called Rugby Singapore Pte Ltd with Sport Singapore to run the event for the next four years, TODAY reports.
The Rugby Sevens next year will be the company's first commercial venture, and will also operate like any other business to weigh the commercial viability of bringing and organising top rugby events here. The SRU itself will continue to focus on promoting the sport in Singapore.
The National Stadium managed to beat 23 other locations for the four-year Rugby Sevens contract. Hopefully by next year, the National Stadium's controversial pitch will finally be adequate enough for world-class events.
