The Speakers' Corner at Hong Lim Park — closed last week during the National Mourning period — reopened on Monday, reinstating the rights for people to speak and organize events.
There were fears last week when a Public Order Act silently came into operation in the morning following Lee Kuan Yew's death, leading some to think that the Speakers' Corner will no longer be allowed for use anymore.
According to the announcement by National Parks Board last week, they were not accepting any applications to use Speakers' Corner as Hong Lim Park was one of the 18 designated community sites for remembering the late Lee Kuan Yew.
