This is what's called check and balance.
Even as airlines and policy makers rush to mandate a "two-person cockpit rule" following this week's Germawings crash, Singapore Airlines Ltd said it already has strict, multi-layered systems in place to protect the cockpit "but declined to comment further," according to Reuters.
The rule means two crew members must be in the cockpit at all times. The second person could be a flight attendant if the pilot or co-pilot has to exit the cockpit in flight.
The co-pilot of the doomed Germanwings flight deliberately crashed the plane after he was left alone at the controls. French prosecutors said co-pilot Andreas Lubitz, 27, locked out the pilot before slamming the Airbus A320 into a mountain on Tuesday.
All 150 people on board were killed. PM Lee Hsien Loong has sent his condolences to Germany and Spain.
