SMRT only slightly extending public transport hours tonight due to low demandNoticing low demand for their train services during their 24-hour operation yesterday, SMRT have announced that last train services will only run until 12.45am. "The public transport operators are not able to run train services the entire night tonight as they did last night, because of the need for them to carry out maintenance of the trains and tracks to ensure that our MRT and LRT services run safely and reliably," the transport operator explained in a Facebook post today.  Both train and bus services went into a 24-hour shift yesterday to cater to the public paying their last respects to the late Lee Kuan Yew on the first night Lying in State at the Parliament house. The turnout was massive, with queues snaking all over the civic district, and resulting in eight-hour waiting times.  Despite the huge volume of people in line the whole day and night, SMRT noticed that demand for train services last evening at City Hall, Raffles Place, Clarke Quay and Chinatown MRT stations were low, carrying less than 10 percent of its maximum capacity.  Expecting even lower demand for public transport tonight, train and bus operating hours tonight will only be extended slightly.    (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); Joint Media Statement by LTA, SBST and SMRT Update on Public Transport Operating HoursMRT and LRT train services will...
