HSA shuts down operations of e-cigarette peddler who sold $100k worth of goods onlineA major e-cigarette peddler selling his illegal wares from a HDB flat has been shut down today by the Health Sciences Authority's (HSA) Tobacco Regulation Branch.  HSA officers stormed the flat at Gangsa Road earlier today and seized his goods and documents. Transaction records revealed that the seller had sold around $100,000 worth of vaporizers and bottles of liquid solutions.  Their investigations pinpointed to the 31-year-old Singaporean suspect, who had illegally purchased the prohibited products from various overseas suppliers to sell through an online shopping site. He had also assembled and modified e-cigarette products and sold them online.  HSA has since shut down the website, while the suspect is currently assisting with investigations.  The agency continues to insist that vaporisers are not proven to be a safer alternative to conventional cigarette smoking, and reminds the public that it is an offence to import, distribute or sell e-cigarettes, e-pipes and e-cigars.  First offenders will be fined up to $5,000 and subsequent offenders will be fined up to $10,000 for each count of offence.  Photo: HSA newsroom
