Multiple Clarke Quay nightspots cease operations due to financial troubles affecting Lifebrandz Group Got a tip? Send it to us at singapore@coconuts.co.  Following the failure of Lifebrandz to pay the salaries of more than 70 employees working in their various nightspots in Clarke Quay, the lifestyle and entertainment group has announced that they'll be ceasing all operations of their affected venues with immediate effect. This would mean that Aquanova, Fenix Room, Mulligan's Irish Pub, Playhouse and Hopdog will no longer run at Clarke Quay. "Having considered the intense competition that the subsidiaries have been facing (and continues to face), the trend of diminishing crowd spending and the impact of the restriction on liquor licensing hours, the Board has determined that the operations of the affected venues is presently not sustainable or commercially viable, and that the named subsidiaries cannot continue as a going concern," Lifebrandz CEO Chng Weng Wah wrote in a press release.  Their financial troubles came to light when more than 70 of their employees turned up at the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) building last Wednesday to lodge complaints over unpaid wages, which have yet to be received for the month of February and most probably March as well.  The management of Lifebrandz's subsidiaries have met with the MOM to address the complaints, but no official outcome has been established from the meeting.  Photo: Wikimedia Commons
