A four-vehicle accident at the junction of Sembawang Road and Yishun Avenue 7 had left an elderly bus driver pinned to his seat by an iron bar, and he was losing consciousness fast.
Lucky for him, a mysterious stranger appeared from the shadows, opened the bus doors from the outside, prised away the iron bar, and dashed away from the scene into the dark night.
According to The New Paper, the bus was involved in an accident with three lorries on Wednesday night, which shattered the windscreens and sent passengers flying. The brunt of the damage was taken at the front of the bus, causing the driver to be trapped in his seat.
A passenger on the bus speaking to The New Paper witnessed the rescue carried out by the unknown man, said to be in his 40s. After he'd left the scene in a hurry, she went over to help the driver, who had glass fragments coated all over his body.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force were alerted to the scene at 7.30pm and conveyed four people — including the bus driver — to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. The police are conducting investigations into the accident.
The identity of the anonymous rescuer remains unknown. Whoever he is, he's the hero that Yishun deserves, and the one that was needed that evening. A silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Dark Knight.
