Though it's entirely out of her job scope, a domestic helper was tasked by her employers with the colossal chore of cleaning an actual public canal at Lorong Chuan as well as — get this — wiping the leaves of trees at a park.
She was spotted by the various residents of Colchestor Grove, who were puzzled when she entered the canal by herself with a trowel and stepladder, clearing the leaves from the water. Rather absurdly, she has also been spotted several times carrying a cloth and a bucket of water to a nearby park to wipe down the leaves of the plants.
A concerned resident who had spoken to her before told Lianhe Wanbao that the domestic helper was told by her employer to clean the canal as she had finished all other household chores. The employer on the other hand defended his actions, insisting that it had to be done to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes. He had made calls to the authorities to do it, but was informed that it could only be carried out once a month. "My family and friends often visit us and I do not want them to be bitten by mosquitoes," he actually remarked to the paper.
An owner at a domestic help agency called out on the employer's unreasonable conduct, asserting that the maid's duties should only be restricted to within the house.
