It's a sad day for fans of Japanese comics.
Manga master artist Yoshihiro Tatsumi passed away on March 7. He was 79.
Tatsumi is known for darker, non-traditional style of manga in the late 1950s, which he coined "gekiga."
Singaporean filmmaker Eric Khoo, who adapted five of Tatsumi's short stories in Tatsumi, a film about the artist, made the announcement to a British journalist.
Khoo's animated feature premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 2011.
Kinokuniya's online store has Tatsumi's graphic novels in stock: Fallen Words ($30.62), Good-Bye ($38.30) and his autobiography, A Drifiting Life ($64.60).
