A Northern Ireland native will be flown here in Singapore to have her organs donated following severe brain damage sustained from a hike up a volcano and lapsing into a coma.
22-year-old Lisa Orsi, a physiotherapist who has been working at Hougang's Bright Vision Hospital over the past year, had fallen ill a few hours after trekking up a volcano in Indonesia with friends last week, BBC reported. She had collapsed in her bedroom after taking a shower, suffering from breathing difficulties.
Reportedly, Orsi experienced a bad reaction during her trek, causing her sinuses to swell and blocking the flow of oxygen to her brain.
Orsi has not been responding to the treatment, with chances of recovery remaining slim as the damage sustained in brain are suspected to be extensive.
Though her family are devastated, they've come to accept that there'll be no hope of recovery, The Belfast Telegraph reports.
Orsi's parents have granted permission for her to be flown to Singapore, where her organs will be donated and used for transplantation, as per her wishes.
The Irish community in Singapore have also set up the Lisa Orsi Fund in an effort to raise funds to defray the expenses incurred in relation to her medical bills and her family's travel and accommodation costs. Donations currently stand at $7,000.
