Police tase parang-wielding man in Toa Payoh Central coffeeshop commotionPolice had no choice but electroshock a parang-wielding man into submission when he refused to stop causing a ruckus at a coffeeshop in Toa Payoh Central.  Witnesses reported to The New Paper that the 54-year-old man had been drinking at the coffee shop before leaving for another place to drink on Monday night. He returned later with a 30cm-long machete and started a commotion, threatening to attack another man.  When the police arrived around 11.30pm to handle the tense situation, he refused to drop his weapon and turned it on himself, threatening suicide. After a heated exchange, a police officer fired his Taser gun and the man dropped like a sack of rocks on the floor. Footage of the incident was taken from across the road and sent to citizen journalism site STOMP.  The man was then arrested for possession of an offensive weapon, and taken away to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Police are investigating into the incident and the reason for his outburst. Photo: Wikimedia Commons
