![Overwhelming demand for fortune and good luck, lion dance troupes unable to cope with volume]()
Looks like the need for fortune and good luck here are higher than ever, and what better way to attract them than with dance troupes in lion costumes?
Channel News Asia reports that lion dance troupes have received more performance invitations that they can handle this Chinese New Year.
Usually performed during special occasions such as the Lunar New Year, business opening events and wedding ceremonies, the demand for their fortune-attracting services have effectively exceeded the volume of lion dance troupes — some even had to turn down requests.
Manpower issues were cited as the main reason why the troupes weren't able to cope with the demand in the past few weeks as a significant part of their members consisted of students who are facing school examinations this week.
Costs of transporting the crew and equipment have also risen, with lorry rentals climbing up considerably this year.
