PM Lee to undergo robot-assisted surgery today following prostate cancer diagnosis Cancer can hit anyone, and even those in power can't thwart the threat. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong should count himself very lucky that doctors detected cancer cells on his  prostate early, after a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan showed suspicious lesions.  According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, a subsequent biopsy revealed that one out of 38 samples contained cancer cells, effectively diagnosing him with prostate cancer. He'll be undergoing surgery today to remove his prostate gland.    (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); Post by Lee Hsien Loong. As a testament to the nation's fame for highly-advanced tech-based medical treatments, he'll be undergoing a robot-assisted keyhole prostatectomy, where Professor Christopher Cheng — lead Urologist at the Singapore General Hospital — will control robotic arms to conduct the procedure.  Coincidentally, the Prime Minister's predecessor Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong underwent surgery for prostate cancer as well last November. He returned to work a week later in full health.  The 63-year-old Lee will be on medical leave for a week, and is expected to make a full recovery without complications. Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean will be taking over his duties during Lee's absence.  Photo: Lee Hsien Loong Facebook page
