A man took advantage of his position of trust as a father figure to his girlfriend's young daughter and sexually violated the child in her own home just to satiate his degenerate lust.
According to The New Paper, the now 50-year-old man has been sentenced by the Supreme Court to 15 years' imprisonment for aggravated statutory rape.
The girl and her mother had arrived in Singapore in 2000 and with the help of the man — who was their neighbour's husband then — found a place to stay in the east. The man left his wife and got into a relationship with the mother, moving in the flat with them.
It was only nine years later that he made his move on the girl, who had turned 12 by then. While her mother was out at work, the man laid down beside her and committed lewd acts on the girl, such as fondling her, and later penetrating her without a condom, while she complied out of fear. He made her promise not to tell her mother.
It was only two years later that the rape was discovered when she complained to her guardians at the childcare centre about rashes at her private parts. After being taken to the hospital, she reluctantly admitted to the rape incident in 2009. A police report was made later.
In court, the man pleaded guilty in Hokkien through a translator, and was spared a caning sentence due to his age.
