Anthony Bourdain is now actively looking for Singapore hawkers to join him at his New York food court venture.
The TV host once told Esquire he felt "the greatest city in the world" lacked the "delicious, diverse food centres" available in places like Hong Kong and Singapore, and wanted, if nothing else, to eat least enjoy really good chicken rice in New York City.
One year later, his dream is coming true. Early next year, Bourdain Market will open in Manhattan selling international street food and he hopes to convince some good Singapore hawkers to be a part of it. "It is essential that we have good chicken rice, laksa, char kway teow and perhaps nasi lemak and bak kut teh. If we don't have those, we are nothing," the 58-year-old told The Straits Times.
