As new laws to curb remote gambling kicked in yesterday, numerous online gambling sites have been blocked from access here in Singapore.
According to TODAY, the list of blocked websites will not be made public, but the Ministry of Home Affairs assures that they will undergo regular reviews.
Some frequent online gamblers have also found themselves in a rut as they were no able to withdraw the money they deposited for games on the now-obstructed websites.
Under this new legislation, it would be considered an offence to gamble in Singapore using remote communication through websites and mobile apps that are not provided by licensed operators. Offenders may face fines of up to $5,000 and/or six months' imprisonment.
Financial institutions are also prohibited from accepting credit, electronic fund transfers and other transactions to or from remote gambling services.
