Littering-related summonses double to 19,000 in 2014Littering is increasingly becoming a foul issue among the authorities that be, especially since both Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chock Tong came out on Facebook to lambaste the actions of revellers at the recent Laneway Music Festival Singapore, which left Gardens By the Bay looking more like a landfill than a proud tourist attraction.  Yesterday at the South-West District's ECo-Day Out, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan echoed their sentiments, declaring the need for Singaporeans to step up in the efforts toward clean environments — especially since the National Environment Agency (NEA) issued 19,000 summonses for littering in 2014, doubling that of the previous year.  According to TODAY, Dr. Balakrishnan stated that enforcement actions on littering will continue to be stepped up in the upcoming months ahead.  Photo: Brian Jeffery Beggerly via Flickr
