Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recently conducted a raid across 16 shops in Little India, arresting 11 men aged between 27 and 46 for suspected involvement in the sales and distribution of counterfeit mobile phones and accessories.
In total, CID officers seized 12,900 imitation mobile phones and accessories with an estimated value of around $600,000.
Persons found guilty of selling or distributing infringing goods with falsely applied trade mark may face fines up to $100,000, and/or an imprisonment term of up to five years.
