Lorry driver who caused biker's death receives fine and 5-year driving banFor causing the death of a motorcyclist through negligent driving, a lorry driver has been fined $8,500, had his license revoked and a five-year driving ban, The New Paper reports.  Last year, 46-year-old Indian national Paramasivam Bharathi failed to give way to a motorcyclist when he made a right turn from Sungei Kadut Street 2 into Sungei Kadut Street 1, obtruding into the rider's path and resulted in a collision at the front right side of the lorry. Both the rider and his pillion fell onto the road. The rider, 28-year-old Malaysian crane operator Lim Shung Ren, died eight days later from bronchopneumonia due to a compound fracture of the left thigh bone. The pillion was grievously injured and had to go under medical leave for a few months. Bharathi could have received a heavier sentence — two years in jail and/or a fine.  Photo: jeremyfoo via Flickr
