Singapore's veterinary service adequacy comparable to UK and US Singapore's veterinarian to pet ratio has been found to be of world-class standards, comparable to the figures found in the United States and United Kingdom.  The vet-pet ratio is a common indicator of a country's veterinary service adequacy. According to a study by the World Society for the Protection of Animals, Singapore's ratio of one animal doctor to 2,543 pets performs just as well as the standards in the UK (one vet to 2374 pets) and the US (one vet to 3072 pets).  The information was relayed in Parliament yesterday in a written reply by the Ministry of National Development in response to queries on veterinarians in Singapore.  The Ministry stated that 304 vets are currently licensed by the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority, with 219 among them involved in small animal practice, looking after pet animals such as dogs and cats. Others operate in research institutes, wildlife attractions and equine establishments. Only 4 are specialists in the fields of small animal surgery, canine medicine and ophthalmology.  Photo: Jennifer C. via Flickr
