!['The Straits Times' thought diaper police was real and of course isn't apologising for it]()
Less than a month after receiving (and ignoring) backlash from the international community for circulating images of a dead body from the AirAsia QZ8501 crash without concern, The Straits Times has done it again.
Over the weekend, the Singapore daily ran a report on the Pope's Manila visit, written by its Philippine correspondent.
The ninth paragraph of the report makes this observation: "Some 27,000 policemen, a few seen wearing adult diapers without their pants on, were on hand to control the crowd."
Coconuts Manila reported this morning that the photograph, which was first posted on Facebook by a columnist of a satirical website, was staged.
The men in the picture were not real cops nor traffic enforcers.
After Coconuts published its report, The Straits Times edited the online version of its story. There was no editor's note explaining the changes made.
